Notes

8-0 win over Canada’s East Park was the largest margin of victory over a Canadian team by a Maine District 3 team in a Bangor World Series. Limited East Park to only three hits in the win. The shutout was the third for a Maine District 3 team in a Bangor World Series – all coming against a Canadian team. Bangor East/West hitters were 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position... 13-0 win over Lazio was in five innings via the 10-run rule. It was the first shutout for a Maine District 3 team against a team not from Canada. In the win, Bangor East/West starting pitcher Curtis Worcester pitched a perfect four innings before being pulled after 45 pitches. Reliever Tyler LaPlante gave up Lazio’s only hit, a double in the fifth. Had Worcester pitched a perfect five innings, he would not have been credited with a perfect game or a no-hitter, as a pitcher must pitch a minimum of seven innings to qualify. As a team, hit three triples in the 13-0 win... Committed five errors in 10-5 loss to South Vineland, resulting in four of South Vineland’s runs being unearned. The pitching staff didn’t strike out anybody in the loss... Down 3-0 to defending World Series champ West University on the last day of pool play with a semifinal berth on the line, rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it 3-2 West University, with the seventh, eighth, and ninth hitters singling, tripling, and singling. Josiah Hartley stunned West University in the top of the seventh with a one-out, two-run home run to left-center field that proved to be the game-winning hit for Bangor East/West in the 4-3 win. Stranded West University runners at second and third base when Worcester struck out the last batter of the game. West University stranded 10 runners on base in the game... This was the first series in which a Maine District 3 team won more than one game and therefore the first series in which a Maine District 3 team advanced to the semifinals... Fell behind quickly in the semifinal against Manhattan Beach, as four of the first Manhattan Beach batters hit safely, scoring three runs. Was down 3-2 with one out in the top of the fifth when Anthony Capuano hit a three-run home run to put Bangor East/West ahead 5-3 – a lead the host never relinquished. As a team, went 7-for-15 with runners in scoring position in the game and stole seven bases. The win over  gave Maine District 3 two wins over a region other than Canada, as the 2002 Bangor East/West team defeated U.S. West champ East View L.L., San Pedro, Calif., 7-3... Fell behind quickly in the championship game to Aruba South, allowing three runs in the first after four of Aruba South’s first five batters hit safely. The fifth inning was the only inning in which Bangor East/West had more than one base runner. Catcher Dylan Morris shut down Aruba South’s running game, as the Latin America champ attempted only two stolen bases, with one runner thrown out. Aruba South stole 29 bases in the series... Hit seven triples as a team in the series... Hartley became the first Bangor World Series player to hit a home run as a batter and allow a home run as a pitcher, as he gave up a home run to Aruba South’s Chadwick Tromp... Pitching staff had an ERA of 2.63, the lowest ever for a Maine District 3 team...
