The Senior League World Series will feature five regional teams from the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Maine District 3 champion the host district. Information on teams will be posted when it becomes available.
Lazio L.L., of Lazio, Italy, won the 2010 Europe-Middle East-Africa regional in Novara, Italy,
with an 11-3 win over Kutno L.L., of Kutno, Poland, on July 10. Italy had finished third in round
robin play, with a 2-2 record, as four of the five teams advanced to the elimination rounds.
Italy outscored opponents 63-25.
This is the second consecutive year that a team from Italy will represent the EMEA region. Friuli
Venezia Giulia L.L., Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy, played in last year’s World Series, snapping the
region’s 14-game losing streak with an 11-8 win over U.S. Central champ West Madison
National L.L., Madison, Wis., in Friuli’s third game of pool play.
Since the World Series moved to Bangor in 2002, EMEA teams have compiled a 5-27 (.156)
record, ranking the region last of the 10-region field, one game behind host district Maine
District 3’s record of 6-26 (.188). Italy will have a chance to catch up with the host district in the
all-time standings, as the EMEA region has been moved from Pool B to Pool A, in which the
host plays. EMEA was in Pool A in the 2002 and 2003 series before moving to Pool B.
Joining Italy in Pool A, in addition to Maine District 3, will be Canada, U.S. East, and U.S. Southwest.
Italy’s first game will be at 5:30 p.m., Aug. 15 against the U.S. Southwest champion.
Uniform colors: orange and black.
Saipan L.L., of Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, defeated Guam 8-4
on July 15 to win the Asia-Pacific regional. CNMI went 3-0 in round robin play and outscored
opponents 24-13 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
This will be Saipan L.L.’s third appearance in a Bangor World Series. The league’s previous
appearances were in 2004 (2-2 record) and 2007 (2-2 record).
Asia-Pacific teams are 10-23 (.303) in the World Series since the event moved to Bangor in
2002. Last year’s representative, Illam Central L.L, from Makati City, Philippines, compiled a 3-1 pool play record to become the first Asia-Pacific team in a Bangor series to advance to the
semifinal round. The Philippines lost in the semifinal round to eventual world champion West
University L.L., of Houston, Texas.
CNMI will play in Pool B, which also includes Latin America, U.S. Central, U.S. Southeast, and
U.S. West. CNMI’s first game will be at 8 p.m., Aug. 15 against the Latin America
champion.
Uniform colors: navy blue and red.
Aruba South L.L., of San Nicolas, Aruba, is making its second consecutive appearance in the
World Series after capturing the Latin America regional title with a 5-2 win over Summit Hills
Alta-Mira L.L., of San Juan, Puerto Rico, on July 24. Aruba was 5-0 in pool play in the regional,
held in Oranjestad, Aruba, and 7-0 overall while outscoring opponents 64-5. Four of San
Nicolas’s regional wins were by shutout. The average margin of victory for the two-time
defending Latin America champs was 8.4 runs.
In the 2009 World Series, San Nicolas went undefeated (4-0) in pool play before losing 7-6 in the
semifinals to eventual series runner-up Niles-Centerville L.L., of Fremont, Calif.
Latin American teams have compiled a 24-8 (.750) record in pool play since the World Series
moved to Bangor in 2002 and are 30-13 (.698) overall. They have appeared in seven semifinals
and four championship games, with series titles in 2002 and 2006.
Aruba will play in Pool B, along with the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (Asia-Pacific), the U.S. West champ, the U.S. Central champ, and the U.S. Southeast champ. Its first
game will be at 8 p.m., Aug. 15 against CNMI.
Uniform colors: green and yellow.
Bangor East/West L.L., of Bangor, won the Maine District 3 championship with a 20-9, eight-inning win over Brewer L.L., of Brewer, on July 26. Bangor was 4-1 in the eight-team, double
elimination tournament, with its loss against Brewer, in the championship round. The team
outscored opponents 55-22.
Bangor has won the host district tournament seven times since the World Series moved to
Bangor in 2002, compiling a 5-19 (.208) overall record. Maine District 3 teams as a whole are 6-26 (.188)
Bangor was 1-3 in the 2009 series, with two losses coming in extra innings (4-2 in 10 innings
against Northwood L.L., Greenville, S.C., on a walk-off home run, and 7-6 in eight innings
against eventual World Series runner-up Niles-Centerville L.L., Fremont, Calif., on a walk-off
walk).
The host team will play in Pool A, along with Canada; Lazio, Italy (EMEA); U.S. East; and U.S.
Southwest. Maine District 3’s first game will be against Canada, opening the series at noon, Aug.
15.
Uniform colors: crimson and gray.
Manhattan Beach L.L., from Manhattan Beach, Calif., defeated perennial favorite Hilo L.L.,
of Hilo, Hawaii, on Aug. 10 to win the U.S. West championship. The 4-3 win over Hilo, which
has made two World Series appearances in Bangor since 2002, gave the Southern California
champs their first regional title at any level in baseball.
Manhattan Beach was 4-0 in pool play at the regional in Ontario, Calif., and 6-0 overall while
outscoring opponents 48-10.
U.S. West teams have compiled a pool play record of 27-5 (.844), the best for any of the 10
World Series slots, since 2002. The region has advanced to the semifinal round every year except
for 2008, with championship game appearances in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2009, with a title
in 2003, won by Hilo.
Manhattan Beach will play in Pool B, along with Saipan L.L., Saipan, Commonwealth of the
Northern Mariana Islands; Aruba South L.L., San Nicolas, Aruba; Holmes County L.L., Holmes
County, Ohio; and Palm Bay East L.L., Palm Bay, Fla. Its first game will be at 2:30 p.m., Aug.
15 against Palm Bay East.
Uniform colors: Yellow and navy blue.
Palm Bay East L.L., from Palm Bay, Fla., defeated defending U.S. Southeast champ
Northwood L.L., Greenville, S.C., 2-0 on Aug. 11. The host for the U.S. Southeast regional went
3-0 in pool play and 5-0 overall in Viera, Fla., outscoring opponents 32-15.
A Florida team has advanced to Bangor four times now. The Southeast region is 22-10 (.688) in
pool play, with Florida teams 10-2 (.833). The region appeared in a semifinal for seven
consecutive years before failing to make the cut last year. The region is 1-2 in championship
game appearances, with the win by Cartersville L.L., Cartersville, Ga., coming in 2007.
Palm Bay East will play in Pool B, along with Saipan L.L., Saipan, Commonwealth of the
Northern Mariana Islands; Aruba South L.L., San Nicolas, Aruba; Holmes County L.L., Holmes
County, Ohio; and Manhattan Beach L.L., Manhattan Beach, Calif. Its first game will be at 2:30
p.m., Aug. 15 against Manhattan Beach.
Uniform colors: Burgundy and yellow.
Holmes County L.L., from Holmes County, Ohio, captured the U.S. Central title with a 10-6
win over Peru L.L., Peru, Ill, on Aug. 11. Holmes County was 3-1 in round robin play in
Columbia, Mo., and 5-1 overall. The team outscored opponents 51-24.
U.S. Central teams have gone 14-17 (.452) in pool play and made semifinal appearances in 2003
and 2005, with a world title in 2005. Holmes County is the second Ohio team to make the trip to
Bangor. Tuscarawas County L.L., New Philadelphia, Ohio, appeared in the 2008 World Series,
going 2-2.
Holmes County will play in Pool B, along with Saipan L.L., Saipan, Commonwealth of the
Northern Mariana Islands; Aruba South L.L., San Nicolas, Aruba; Palm Bay East L.L., Palm Bay,
Fla.; and Manhattan Beach L.L., Manhattan Beach, Calif. Its first game will be at 10 a.m., Aug.
16 against Palm Bay East.
Uniform colors: Red and navy blue.
West University L.L., from Houston, Texas, captured its second consecutive U.S. Southwest
championship with a 6-3 win over Road Runner L.L., of Albuquerque, N.M., on Aug. 11. West
University was undefeated in the seven-team, double-elimination tournament, going 4-0 in
Seguin, Texas. The team outscored opponents 30-8.
West University is the defending World Series champion and is seeking to become the first team
to win consecutive titles since the series moved to Bangor in 2002. Three previous World Series
champs have come up short trying to win two straight titles. Pabao L.L., Willemstad, Curacao,
Dutch Antilles, won the 2002 series but was bounced in the 2003 semifinal round by eventual
champ Hilo L.L., Hilo, Hawaii. 2004 champ Freehold Township L.L., Freehold Township, N.J.,
lost in the 2005 semifinals. And 2006 champ Paraguana L.L., Falcon, Venezuela, lost the 2007
title game to Cartersville L.L., Cartersville, Ga.
U.S. Southwest teams have compiled an 18-13 (.581) pool play record since 2002 and appeared
in three semifinals, winning one. West University is the only U.S. Southwest team to win a
World Series title in Bangor.
West University will play in Pool A, along with East Park L.L., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;
Lazio L.L., Lazio, Italy; Bangor East/West L.L., Bangor, Maine; and South Vineland L.L.,
Vineland, N.J. Its first game will be at 5 p.m., Aug. 15 against Lazio.
Uniform colors: Gray and navy blue.
South Vineland L.L., from Vineland, N.J., won the U.S. East regional with a 7-2 win over
Marvine Dutch Gap L.L., of Scranton, Pa., on Aug. 12. The U.S. East title is South Vineland’s
second straight. The team was 5-0 in the 10-team regional, held in West Deptford, N.J., and
outscored opponents 42-14.
This year’s trip to Bangor is South Vineland’s fourth – more than any other league. The league’s
previous trips were in 2002, 2003, and 2009. In each appearance, the league finished 2-2, failing
to advance beyond pool play.
A New Jersey team has represented the U.S. East region every year the series has been in Bangor.
The region has compiled a pool play record of 21-11 (.656), appeared in four semifinals, and won
two titles (Freehold Township L.L, in 2004, and North Cumberland L.L., Upper Deerfield, N.J.,
in 2008).
South Vineland will play in Pool A, along with East Park L.L., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;
Lazio L.L., Lazio, Italy; Bangor East/West L.L., Bangor, Maine; and West University L.L.,
Houston, Texas. Its first game will be at 1 p.m., Aug. 16 against East Park.
Uniform colors: Black and gray.
East Park L.L., from Edmonton, Alberta, defeated District 5, from Vancouver, British Columbia,
17-7 on Aug. 12 to win the Canada national championship. East Park was 4-1 in round robin play
and 6-1 overall while outscoring opponents 76-28.
East Park is the second team from the province of Alberta to advance to a Bangor World Series.
Centennial L.L., from Calgary, played in the 2003 series, finishing 1-3.
Canada has a pool play record of 12-20 (.375) since 2002, with a semifinal appearance in 2008
after Whalley L.L., Surrey, British Columbia, went 3-1 in pool play. Whalley lost to eventual
champ North Cumberland. Last year’s entry from Canada, Cornwall L.L., from Cornwall,
Ontario, was winless, with two losses by one run and a third by three runs in 12 innings.
East Park will play in Pool A, along with Lazio L.L., Lazio, Italy; Bangor East/West L.L.,
Bangor, Maine; West University L.L., Houston, Texas; and South Vineland L.L., Vineland, N.J.
Its first game is the series opener, at 12 p.m., Aug. 15 against Bangor East/West.
Uniform colors: Blue and red.
