Kennett Square holds on for 4-2 win over Northside
Kennett Square KAU L.L., Kennett Square, Pa., held off a late comeback bid from Northside L.L., Laredo, Texas, in Sunday’s third game, winning 4-2.
Andrew Jones limited Northside to six hits, as he walked only one and didn’t strike out a batter. He got the complete game win, throwing 87 pitches, 57 of them for strikes.
The U.S. East champs scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and then held off a late rally attempt by the U.S. Southwest champs in the sixth inning.
Kennett Square scored first when Eric Duerr grounded out to second, enabling Drew Jarmuz to get home in the third. Jarmuz had doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Pechin.
Northside tied the game in the bottom of the inning, with lead-off batter Felipe Rodriguez walking, advancing to second on a fielder’s choice, advancing to third on a line drive single to left by Ricky Villarreal, and coming around on an error by Kennett Square second baseman Jake Freeman.
Three singles and an error in the fourth enabled Kennett Square to regain the lead, 4-1. Freeman had a two-run single in the inning.
Singles in the bottom of the sixth by Mario Garcia and Felipe Rodriguez helped Northside cut its deficit to two runs, but that was all the U.S. Southwestern champs could get.
